This cypress tree (Platycladus Orientalis Franco) is 3000 years old, dating from the Zhou Dynasty (1030-722 BC). It is now leaning against the adjoining temple, some say because it is searching for its lost companion which once stood on the other side. Its height is 18 metres, its maximum circumference 5.6 metres, and the diameter of the main trunk is 1.8 metres. The Chinese hold ancient trees in great reverence and take very great care of them.

The other 3000 year-old cypress tree at Jin Ci dating from the Zhou Dynasty (1030-722 BC).
