Robert Temple - Author of The Sphinx Mystery

I was a guest on Michael Berkeley's PRIVATE PASSIONS on BBC radio 3 in 2000. This is a bit like a classical music version of Desert Island Discs but the pieces are not cut short and are played through to the end. My first choice was a recording of howling wolves which is a sound I have always loved. I used to live opposite the Regents Park Zoo in London and at night I would walk to the perimeter of the wolves enclosure and join in their howling, sometimes setting them off with the first howl, until the whole pack was singing in unison. My other choices included Saint-Saens, Bach, Scriabin, Tartini and an Angolan singer called Bongo.
